As an assistant professor and partner at Nae & Smith Design, I believe that designers must embrace the new technologies of today and tomorrow to ensure that design and designers take leadership roles in the future. Through my work experience and research as an interaction designer and developer, I have had the opportunity to put this belief into action. I use visual and interaction design to build processes and tools to create effective user experiences and curriculum.
The New Media Design and Imaging program has developed a unique curriculum for our visual and interaction design students. Through a mix of traditional graphic design principles, animation techniques, image creation and intense programming courses students learn the visual language, problem solving skills and technical knowhow to solve a wide range of design problems. Student work and research includes design and develop for the web, desktop, touchscreen, mobile and broadcast. Award winning alumni now work for companies such as Barbarian Group, Big Spaceship, Google, Microsoft, Firstborn Multimedia, AKQA, Digital Kitchen, R/GA, Crispin Porter and Bogusky, F-I, Odopod among others.
